City College of San Francisco Biotechnology Education Program

City College of San Francisco, in partnership with Goodwill Industries and Bay Area biotech employers, will offer an education and training program that will prepare 99 low-income, underrepresented adults and transition-age youth for employment in the biotechnology industry.

Regional Biotech Manufacturing Initiative

The Regional Biotech Manufacturing Initiative will provide education, work experience, and supportive services to 58 disadvantaged youth and adults and dislocated workers to assist them to move into biotech manufacturing careers. Thirty-six students will graduate through Gateway classes offered at two community colleges. The project will also offer one biotech manufacturing class, serving 20 students, and one calibration and instrumentation class, serving 15 students. The project will place 46 individuals in bio-tech manufacturing jobs.

Laney College Fast Track to Biotech

The Fast Track to Biotech program will offer an education and training program that will prepare 100 low-income, underrepresented adults and transition-age youth for employment in the biotechnology industry. Through the proposed program, Laney College will guide students through a graduated sequence of pre-collegiate training courses.

The New York Bioscience/Biotechnology Technician Program

The New York Bioscience/Biotechnology Technician Program represents a partnership among SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Hunter College, and the Workforce Strategy Center. The goal of the Biotechnology Scholars Program is to build a labor force to complement the development of the emerging biotech industry in New York City.

Biotechnical Institute of Maryland

The Biotech Institute of Maryland partners with more than 29 life sciences companies in the region to provide low-income adults with tuition-free lab training, college credit, and jobs with family-supporting wages and benefits.

BTI offers both BioStart, a 12-week bridge program to increase basic academic skills and knowledge of the biotech industry, as well as a more advanced Lab Associates program. Lab Associates is a 9-week training program that leads its graduates to both a 100-hour internship in the industry and then a full-time placement in the field.

Baltimore Alliance for Careers in Healthcare Biotechnical Institute of Maryland Jumpstart

The Baltimore Workforce Collaborative is an alliance of 70 organizations that are collaborating to improve the economic health of the city of Baltimore by developing a workforce system that prepares city residents for skilled positions with employers who are experiencing critical workforce shortages.

Central Iowa Works Funding Collaborative

Central Iowa Works’ mission is to develop a world-class workforce system that meets the needs of both employers and workers and aligns with economic development goals. A world-class workforce system supports: unemployed and underemployed workers (including minority and disabled populations); individuals with educational, cultural, and language barriers to employment; individuals reentering the community after incarceration; and low-skilled individuals for employment in non-traditional occupations (women in the construction trades).

Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative

The Baltimore Workforce Funders Collaborative is a public/private partnership of investors dedicated to advancing the labor market prospects of unemployed and under-employed Baltimore City residents while meeting the needs of the region’s employers for a skilled workforce.

San Diego Workforce Funders Collaborative

The San Diego Workforce Funders Collaborative (SDWFC) was founded in 2006 as a public/private partnership of philanthropic foundations, employers, and public workforce development agencies to identify the region’s workforce needs, create coordinated and financed solutions, and monitor regional success. A major objective of the SDWFC is to focus on employer engagement by funding job training programs for low wage workers that impact systems change.
