Nursing Career Ladder Initiative

San Francisco
, California

Jewish Vocational Services’ Nursing Career Ladder Initiative aims to expand the pool of qualified nurses for Bay Area hospitals, while improving their economic opportunities through high-paying jobs in positions with career advancement opportunities.

Continuing a longstanding, successful partnership with City College of San Francisco, JVS will provide career counseling and support services to students in the Registered Nursing Refresher and Licensed Vocational Nursing Refresher programs for U.S. and foreign-trained nurses to obtain the necessary elements for employment in Bay Area hospitals and health care settings, as well as low-income Bay Area students in the two-year nursing programs working to obtain their Associate’s degree in nursing for employment as RNs.

One hundred and fifty low-income foreign-trained nursing professionals will receive classroom training, career counseling, and support services necessary for them to successfully secure Licensed Vocational Nurse and Registered Nurse positions. An additional 70 low-income nursing students enrolled in the nursing program at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) will receive training, career counseling, and support services necessary for them to successfully secure Registered Nurse positions.

A total of 220 students will be served by these programs. JVS anticipates the following outcomes for each program: LVN Refresher Program: 85 students will complete training and 65 will secure jobs at LVNs; RN Refresher Program: 40 students will complete training and 31 will secure jobs as RNs; and RN Educational Program: 56 students will complete training and 43 will secure jobs as RNs.
